Rhaeos – developing a non-invasive, wearable shunt monitor

The company is currently developing FlowSense, a wireless, non-invasive wearable that is placed over a patient’s shunt to monitor the buildup of cerebrospinal fluid and prevent hydrocephalus. The device is intended to help healthcare providers monitor shunt function and reduce unnecessary healthcare expenditures (e.g. readmission costs, hospital length of stay). Lark raises $55M in Series C round

Lark is the developer of digital health applications for the monitoring and management of chronic diseases. The company currently offers solutions for diabetes management and prevention, hypertension, and behavioral health. To-date, Lark has raised $95.7M. Other competitors in the digital health market include Livongo, Omada Health, and Omron.

A lightweight, continuous, non-invasive blood pressure monitor is in development at PyrAmes

The sensor is intended to be an alternative to arterial lines and traditional cuff-based blood pressure monitoring systems. Compared to existing technologies, PyrAmes’ sensor is discrete and wireless. In October 2020, PyrAmes completed a seed round for an undisclosed amount that was funded by the Texas Halo Fund.

Telemedicine solutions developer Avail Medsystems raises $100M

Avail Medsystems has built the Avail System, which connects healthcare providers through the Avail network and the Avail Console. These solutions help connect healthcare providers collaborate, regardless of physical, economic, and logistical barriers. Following the substantial amount of capital raised in the recent (October 2020) Series B round, the company has raised approximately $127.9M. Amwell, Teledoc, and Virtuwell are other players in the growing telemedicine market.

Francis Medical receives $4M investment from Coloplast

Francis Medical is developing water vapor ablation technology to treat cancerous tissue via a transurethral approach. The company is currently conducting a feasibility study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the technology. With this recent investment, Francis Medical has raised approximately $22M. Key strategics in the ablation devices market include Urologix, Smith & Nephew, and Stryker.

Neocis – surgical robotics for dental procedures

The company has developed Yomi, an FDA-cleared robotic system for the pre-operative and intra-operative phases of dental surgery. In October 2020, Neocis completed a Series D round, raising $72M from 6 investors. Following this recent round of fundraising, the company has raised approximately $122.9M. Intuitive Surgical, Accuray, and Stryker are some of the key competitors in the surgical robotics market.
