Aesthetic, dermatological and plastic surgery includes a wide range of open and minimally invasive procedures performed on the skin and external anatomy. Aesthetic surgery is performed primarily for cosmetic purposes and includes procedures such as abdominoplasty, blepharoplasty, breast augmentation and reduction, facelifts, hair transplants, liposuction and rhinoplasty. Dermatological surgery is performed on the skin and includes procedures such as skin biopsy as well as excision, photodestruction and cryotherapy-based ablation of skin lesions. Plastic surgery is performed primarily for remodeling of anatomical defects such as cleft palate and for repair and reconstruction of skin and anatomical defects due to burn injury. The number of procedures per year is forecast to grow at a 3.1% compound annual rate over the 2017-2022 interval, with volume approaching 23.3 million by 2022.
