I'd like to thank the people that all aside for putting on a pretty incredible event and very well run. And it's a real privilege here to be introducing you to Sunrise Labs, as well as to the next four speakers in their sessions. Before I dive in, do want to point out that there is a QR code here that will help those of you who are doing development projects in your projects to make sure you get all the things done that you need to get done. I will show those in the last couple of slides. You may only have a moment to see that. So that's why I'm telling you now. Okay. Let me start by asking you a question. Who knows what this is? Okay. Yeah. Okay. Great. Hopefully it's rhetorical question, right? iconic building one of my favorites in the world, the Sydney Opera House, absolutely stunning. This building is a subject of one of my favorite books that I recommend to all of you who happened to be developing medical devices, doing software, developing companies associated with developing companies, whatever that may be. This book, the two authors looked at 1000s of projects, and found striking similarities between them all, both good and bad. On the the not so good side, on average, the projects tended to fail in the same ways. And I took it projects, they had a whole list of different types of projects. And on average, the projects and average had an overrun of 73% of the ones that had big overruns some being defined by more than 50%, the overrun by 447%, on average, stunning, and I would assert that medical devices and medical companies are even harder. So it gets even worse than this. The good news is we can do better. So with that, let me introduce my company, Sunrise Labs. We are an engineering services company. We do product development, software development, we give you embedded resources. We are based just outside of Boston and Manchester, New Hampshire, just under 100 people and hope we can provide you with some services. Back to buildings. Okay, who knows this building? Come on. It's the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain. Another iconic building, and also one of my favorites as well, by my favorite architect Frank Gehry. Now Frank is my favorite for a number of reasons not just because of the Guggenheim, but for reasons I'll explain in a second. Who knows the architect of the Sydney Opera House, your butson not quite as famous as Frank Gehry. And as matter of fact, your dog died in 2008. never even saw the finished Sydney Opera House. He left Australia well, before it was done, the project was delayed by 10 years, almost 14 100% over budget. Frank Gehry three years under budget on time, remarkable achievement. Some of the things that we also espouse at sunrise are the same things that Frank Gehry espouses that we believe deeply in depth of expertise, experience matters. And it's about partnership in the way that you work with people. So one thing that I want you to walk away from with this is, let's be frank, and I want us all to be just like Frank Gehry. So choose your development partner wisely. And with that, I'll introduce the first presentation
Hands-on, engineering-oriented executive with experience developing, manufacturing, selling, distributing and supporting bio-medical equipment, devices and software around the world for large- and mid-cap healthcare companies and for venture-backed start-ups.
I have led multiple successful product launches, including one central to doubling the market capitalization of a publicly traded biomedical equipment manufacturer focused on the collection of blood components for the treatment of rare diseases. I created and led new services to transform a large medical device company, and I have managed 400 FTE located across 20 countries in Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Canada, delivering and providing supply chain and services to 1000s of customers. I spent four years in Europe as head of a 150+ person operation that I moved into a new automated facility, and I have been part of the founding team of two venture-backed technology start-ups.
