Say hello to my guest, Jay Banerjee here at LSI 2023. Jay, thanks for coming by the studio

Jay Banerjee  0:17

Ben, thanks for having me.

Ben Glenn  0:19

So this is your first LSI event. What do you think so far? Day three, kicking it off? How's it been for you?

Jay Banerjee  0:26

LSI has been everything and more than I've expected. And it's it's great having investors, strategics, and innovators all in one place together.

Ben Glenn  0:37

So what brings you out to LSI? What are you trying to do for your business out here?

Jay Banerjee  0:41

Yeah, ImmersiveTouch is a surgeon driven AI platform. And we're looking for strategic partnerships to help drive innovation within the hospital system. Primarily ImmersiveTouch helps surgeons plan surgeries in 3d, using virtual reality and augmented reality. And so using AR and VR, surgeons are able to plan their own procedures in real time. And that allows our intelligence platform to gather incredible amounts of data. And we're looking for strategic partnerships, such as robotic companies, and imaging and video companies. To help integrate into this platform. We were the hub, surgical intelligence hub in the hospital. And we're looking for various spokes in our hub model, such as robotic systems, electronic medical record systems, radiology systems, and laparoscopic imaging. So we really take a data driven approach and immersive touch and the more data the better for us.

Ben Glenn  1:44

Well tell us more about your platform where you've been at it for 10 years. So tell us more about your successes are there places where you've, you've really seen the platform provide better outcomes for the patients and surgeons that are using it?

Jay Banerjee  1:58

Yeah, ImmersiveTouch started as a haptic training platform. And it slowly evolved into a patient specific FDA cleared personalized surgery platform. So we're taking CT and MRI scans of the patient, recruiting 3d avatars, 3d models of the patient. And what's unique about ImmersiveTouch is the ability for surgeons to actually interact with those models. They could perform craniotomy, they can make cuts, they can reduce trauma fractures, they can figure out which plating to use. And so that allows the platform to gain intelligence over time, and eventually automatically propose ideas to the surgeon.

Ben Glenn  2:37

So is this something that's part of informed consent? I mean, does it rise to that level where the surgeon could actually show the patient? This is your imaging, here's what I plan on doing, and have helped them understand what the procedure is going to do.

Jay Banerjee  2:50

Yeah, 100%. And in a value driven environment, patients are always first. And so surgeons use this platform to educate their patients on what they're going to plan on doing in the operating room, and patients love this product.

Ben Glenn  3:07

So what are some of the health systems or clinical sites where you've got the best engagement,

Jay Banerjee  3:14

We have a great partnership with Mayo Clinic, we're developing co we've partnered and developed an augmented reality system for cardiothoracic and orthopedic procedures, we have a great relationship with the University of Illinois system where I went to school, where, and so we have an amazing partnership in cranial facial. And so we're developing the platform from there, and we're about 96 hospitals to date now.

Ben Glenn  3:41

So what's going to be the next frontier for you guys

Jay Banerjee  3:43

to continue to expand this into more hospitals and health systems to create a standard operating procedure for surgery, where with more and more surgeons using the platform, we're able to create a convergence of of procedures on how a surgeon approaches, let's say, a tumor, or an aneurysm or a trauma case. So we're able to create a standard operating procedure. So the standard of care becomes elevated, no matter what your experience level is, no matter where who you are,

Ben Glenn  4:17

you know, so I've seen in, in my work around the country, like Texas A&M, they now have there's an there's an engineering and technical aspect through medical school. There's similar programs going on at Jefferson back in Philadelphia. And so this convergence of more than medical training, and more technical surgeons and physicians coming out, do you see a role for your technology and enabling this next generation of surgeons and physicians? Yeah, absolutely

Jay Banerjee  4:45

immersiveTouch is born out of engineering and surgery. So I have an engineering background. But what makes this company unique is the number of surgeons who are involved in the company who helped guide I us in developing technology. We're a surgeon first company. And, and so Jefferson is a great example. I mean, we have a clinical trial going on right now, on how this product helps surgeons with tumors and oncology for the face.

Ben Glenn  5:17

So do you go further into training? Are you part of medical training programs?

Jay Banerjee  5:22

Absolutely. So this is a 3d anatomy platform. So residents are able to use this platform to learn how they would approach a case, how they would plan a procedure, how other surgeons have approached the case. So they're able to gather so much more intelligence about a case that they might be going through.

Ben Glenn  5:39

So are you able to go in? I mean, you think about it, it's they've got to make the quiz and do the test. Are you able to introduce malformations or a clinical state or, you know, make it more complicated, you know, throw the curveball in, you know, in psycho medical training examined area? Can you? You know, can it be used to introduce more complicated things.

Jay Banerjee  6:02

We're only as complicated as the patient. So we're patient specific, we use CT and MRI data to create the models that we have. So if the patient is complicated, that's going to throw the curveball at the surgeon, we don't introduce anything new, we're 100, we have a clinical study that shows that ImmersiveTouch is exactly identical to the patient. So we create a digital twin of the patient. And we're FDA cleared, and we have that accuracy, which we're proud of.

Ben Glenn  6:29

Oh, that's amazing. So what is that, you know, we talk about, you know, digital twinning. So what is the level of accuracy that you're able to achieve?

Jay Banerjee  6:36

It's close to 100%. It's not, it's not exactly 100. But it's as close as you can possibly be to 100%.

Ben Glenn  6:43

So depends on the quality of the imaging that you've got. But once you compile that render able to replicate that imaging, so yeah, we're

Jay Banerjee  6:49

unique is a 3d modeling system where it's as accurate as possible. I believe we're the only company that studied that. And, and that's important, because for the AI to be accurate, we need accurate data. And so to create that 3d model, we're using patient specific scans, that's then becoming an accurate 3d model, and then the surgeon is interacting with that model. And so the AI is able to pick up okay, this is how the surgeon is planning this case. And this is, you know, and it's using accurate patient information.

Ben Glenn  7:20

You know, so you use the example of, you know, facial reconstruction. So there's a lot of strategics, and, you know, larger companies that have, you know, they've got their own plating system, are you finding that they're cooperative and getting, you know, so can you get a 3d model of their products and entered, you know, interleave those with surgical planning?

Jay Banerjee  7:39

Yeah. So, we're a hardware agnostic platform. And so we work with several strategics. For example, Zimmer Biomet has been a great partner in trauma. And so we use some of their plating, search, we, but we're compatible with all strategics. And we're agnostic, because we're a hospital driven platform. So hospitals are using multiple vendors. They're not tied to any one strategic necessarily. So we were, we keep it open.

Ben Glenn  8:09

Well, so what else is going to be going on for the rest of your time here at LSI?

Jay Banerjee  8:13

Well, I'm excited to attend some of the panels and, and speak to some investors. And, and I'm going to be enjoying a nice golf outing tomorrow. So I'm excited.

Ben Glenn  8:26

Alright, anything else to share with us today?

Jay Banerjee  8:29

I'm happy to be here and thanks for thanks for interviewing me.
